DATTO 2020

Intro

Datto Quick Tips is a series designed to to break down Datto products using short demos, tutorials, and release announcements. Datto products are broken into 4 main pillars, so the main design constraint for this series was creating a system that reflected how Datto’s color palette is broken into 5 different schemes: the base corporate, and one for each product pillar. Breaking up episodes into different color schemes based on products should facilitate viewers in distinguishing between topics easily, and finding the information they need more quickly.

I designed the intro to unify all the product pillars, laying out illustrations of product elements in similar grids. With all the elements aligned, I could use quick, popping movement to swap out illustrations, while allowing the eye to focus holistically on the overall layout.

Titles and Lower Thirds

The titles and lower thirds are designed to reflect the conversational motif of the series by using simple "Word bubble” backgrounds. The Motion Graphics Template has controls for orientation, position, and color scheme presets based on the product pillar discussed in the video.

Further, the background of each element dynamically adjusts in size based on the input text, so that editors need to change as few parameters as possible.

Callout Text

Callout text functions similarly to the title text, however, I wanted to distinguish these as more casual sub headings by using single background colors.

Editors have the option to swap preset color schemes, and the option to highlight a range of text with a preset color if certain words need to be emphasized.

Further, editors can adjust the position and orientation so that they draw attention to specific elements on screen and provide further notes.

Transition

I created 5 separate color schemes for this transition which editors can easily access through a dropdown menu. Providing different product pillar color schemes emphasizes the visual cue that viewers should be focused on a specific product pillar topic.
